Small Class Sizes
Smaller class size means more personal attention, more learning and more fun!  Learning to dance requires individual
attention.  Each dancer needs help with body, arm, and leg positions.  We limit class sizes so the teacher has time and
space to work with every student.  This allows the teacher to see every student and make sure no one is developing
bad habits.  Our studios have been custom designed to provide the best dancing environment for classes of this size.

Viewing windows are always open
We invite you to watch your child's dance class at any time.  We have a comfortable, clean waiting room where you
can watch your child, catch up on your reading, or talk with other parents.  If you have younger children with you they
can play with the toys in the toy chest.  Our studio is a home away from home for many of our students and families
are welcome.

We always use appropriate Music, Choreography and Costumes for your
dancer's dance classes and performances.
On the radio people have the option of changing the channel if they find something indecent but dance students must
dance to the music selected by the teacher.  We use current, popular, pop, rock, and hip-hop, but we are selective.
We feel that all the music used in our studio should contain nothing that is likely to cause serious or widespread
offence.

Dance costumes and dance moves have been greatly influenced by the popularity of Britney Spears and other rock
stars who push the limits in their on stage performances.  You can buy lots of  Brintney-style costumes, but we prefer
to keep our dancers decently covered.  We teach classic dance movement and use contemporary choreography, but
we never forget we are working with children.

At Midwest Academy of Dance we do not teach Hip-hop because it is not suitable dance for children and teens. Most
Hip-hop music and movement is sexual or violence based and does fit our criteria of age-appropriate dance.  We
teach contemporary jazz, which gives students the basic technical skills needed for dance

Our Dance Studio Advantage - The "Floating" Dance Floor
Our smaller studio has a floor designed for the young dancer.  This composite floor has a double foam layer
underneath to provide comfort when dancing.  It has  custom painting showing proper foot placement at the bar and
symbols to help younger dancer follow the directions of the teachers.  This saves time between dance sections in the
class and provides more time for dancing.

Our "Floating" Dance Floor rests on a system of high density foam to absorb the shock and impact of regular dance
movement. This benefits students by reducing fatigue and preventing injury that can result from dancing on hard
surfaces.

The top layer of our flooring surface is a professional vinyl composite "Marley" finish on the floor similar to the surfaces
used by Professional Ballet Companies,  This “Marley” floor surface has a certain amount of controlled slip to allow for
sliding in dance movement, but is not slippery like common tiles found in most other dance studios.
